An Open Letter to Dembo Jobarteh

We have observed your recent statements with profound disappointment, though not surprise. Your words consistently reveal a troubling pattern: where there should be patriotism, we find self-interest; where there should be principle, we see political convenience.

The youth movement you so hastily dismiss is not some political pawnshop – it is the beating heart of a nation demanding accountability. While you posture as a voice of reason, your track record betrays you. Every cause you champion somehow circles back to benefit Dembo Jobarteh. Every stance you take conveniently aligns with those who can line your pockets.

Let us examine the facts:

1. GALA rise against corruption – the same corruption you embody when you exploit vulnerable artists.
2. They fight propaganda – the same poison you peddle through your platforms.
3. They resist the looting of our nation’s future – the very crime you commit when you sacrifice an entire generation’s potential for personal gain.

Understand this clearly: your approval is neither sought nor required. The smallest voice in this movement carries more moral authority than your entire catalogue of compromised positions.

To Gambian music lovers and cultural stakeholders, we say this: liberation begins when you stop kneeling before false idols. These artists and industry figures are not deities – they are servants of culture who have forgotten their place. The moment we stop worshipping and start demanding accountability is the moment our industry will truly flourish.

Back to Dembo, consider this your last caution. If you persist in attacking this movement, we will ensure the nation sees you for what you truly are—not merely an opponent of progress, but an active architect of Gambia’s stagnation.

And let this be clear: The next time you speak against youths, we will not hesitate to expose your own words—the same words Myk Jayda has echoed, the same truths you once confessed long before Myk ever voiced them. That is why we laugh when you call for his condemnation, knowing full well that what he speaks today is what you whispered to us years ago. That’s a just a tip so do not test the patience of the youth.

The choice is yours, but the consequences will be ours to deliver.
